About Me

My obsession with food goes back to my childhood.  I distinctly remember looking through the baking section of my mom’s copy of the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook and wanting to make cream puffs (so I could eat them, of course!).

I think my love of good food runs in the family — one great grandfather was a peanut farmer, the other the owner of a cafe.  My Granny loved to cook and be creative in the kitchen, and my father enjoys trying new foods and new food products.

As for me, my love of food has had its effect on my weight in the past.  And for a while, I was able to put pleasure on hold and write down EVERYTHING I ate and all of the calories.  But when my husband and I moved 1500 miles away, and I slowly started to gain weight back and obsess over the numbers on the scale, I decided to try intuitive eating.  Even though I still struggle with overeating and the pressure to be thinner, I am slowly becoming more and more healthy through healthy choices and exercise.  I don’t claim to be perfect, hence the name “Imperfectly Healthy”, but every day I’m hoping to be one step closer to living a healthy life free from calorie-counting and scale obsession!

Other Facts:

I’m a Texan at heart and was born and raised there and went to college there.  I was 23 when I moved to Pittsburgh with my husband so he could attend graduate school.

I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and just started graduate school this fall in the NYC area for a master’s degree in Counseling while also working as a graduate assistant.

I love to watch TV and to read.  Some of my favorite shows are:  Lost, Glee, Roswell (oldie, but goodie!), Jericho, Dexter, Friends, Seinfeld, Desperate Housewives, Gossip Girl, House Hunters, Property Virgins, and Vampire Diaries.  Some of my favorite books include “Eat, Pray, Love”, “Julie and Julia”, “Fortune’s Rocks”, and “Prep”  — there are many more than that, but at least it gives you a few!

As you can see, I like to watch a lot of TV — however, the majority of my tv watching used to be while I walked on my treadmill.  I had to sell the treadmill when we moved to New York, so now I’m going to the gym as often as possible and using Exercise TV downloads the rest of the time.  I try to work out daily – even if it’s just 20 minutes – since I feel like working out is a habit that I need to keep up.  Obviously, I’m not perfect, so I miss days – but I always get right back to working out as soon as I can.

I have a huge love of dogs and want to get one as soon as I graduate with my master’s! I’m constantly pointing out dogs to my husband and friends.

I also have an addiction to reading blogs, which is why I started my own!

  7. Hi there–
I noticed your blog while doing research, and I thought I should introduce myself. I am a psychotherapist in NYC and Westchester, and I specialize in Eating Disorders/Emotional Over-Eating. Feel free to contact me or give my email out to anyone you know who is seeking a therapeutic, emotional eater’s group. My groups are really wonderful.
